Hannibal's house (which he and Jono are glad to be back to), Sunday morning

After the last few hectic days, Hannibal slept in (and made sure Jono did his best to do the same), then took the time to make himself a proper, involved breakfast. Grapefruit, crepes, thick-cut bacon, and his best coffee.

And strawberries. Because Jono hadn't had a wonderful weekend, either.

He was going to take his time just to enjoy everything in quiet now for a while.

"Considering it and immediately preferring not to?" Hannibal asked. This was Jono, after all.

"After breakfast," he decided. "Nothing quite says 'relaxing day off' as well as a bit of surgery."

//I, for one, can't think of any way I'd rather be spending my... It's Easter, isn't it? A bit of traditional Easter bone-setting, then. Just like the Bible intended.//

... Jono was an atheist. Perhaps it showed.

"I'll try not to leave holes in your hands," Hannibal said, smirking. "Is there anything other than the ribs I should be looking for?" He'd only noticed that Jono was moving a bit gingerly; he trusted that Jono knew his own body fairly well.

//Aside from a pair of a skinned knees and what might be a fracture in my nose?//

There really wasn't much to be done for his nose, anyway.

//The ribs are by far the worst if it. They singled out that one spot and kept at it until I went down. So there's the few in the back, and then again in the side when the tall one kicked me once I was on the ground.//

It was a bit of a mess in there. He was wearing his wrappings now mostly because they restricted how much moving around he could do. It couldn't kill him, but that didn't make it any less unpleasant.

Hannibal's lips thinned. Forgive him if he bore a bit of animosity towards that particular butler.

"Just the ribs, then. And I can inject a bit of anesthetic, if your nose is bothering you." It wasn't visibly broken, so no, there wasn't much else to be done.

//Don't worry about the nose,// Jono replied, shaking his head. //So long as I don't go walking into walls or anything, it'll be fine enough. It isn't as though I really use it for much, at any rate.//

Probably for the best.

"I promise not to place any walls in your way, although of course I cannot speak for Fandom," Hannibal said.

He finished his breakfast and stacked the dishes neatly.

"I'll need better lighting than we have in the gym at present. And a reliable surface. The studio is probably easiest; we can keep out the cats that way as well."

Or, well, the cat. Beethoven was still sulking someplace.

//Works for me if it works for you,// Jono decided. //The lighting is better in there, though my flame might obscure things a bit. It usually does.//

His biology liked to make things difficult.

"I'll have to work by feel as much as sight." It was a trade-off - at least Jono had few internal organs for Hannibal to worry about.

//On the plus side, you aren't terribly likely to make things worse in there.//

It wasn't like Hannibal was operating with a sledgehammer, after all.

//Whatever it takes to get those ribs set. I'll even behave myself and take it easy for a while as they heal.//

... It would be difficult, mind.

"Don't make promises you can't keep, although I appreciate the thought." Hannibal cleaned up as he spoke. "I'll try to keep you busy with things that won't tax you physically."

They did, after all, still have plenty of wedding to plan.

Jono actually shifted his weight a bit in order to turn (slightly) to look Hannibal's way, at that.

//... I'm going to regret saying this, aren't I?//

Look, they'd met. Jono was going to marry the man, he had to know by now when he'd gone and stepped in it.

Hannibal smirked. "If I recall, you said you were looking forward to helping to plan things."

[furnaceface]

... Dammit!

//Well, yes, I did say that. And I am! I'm looking forward to all of that.// But? //But I never said I was any good at it.//

There was that.

Hannibal chuckled. He finished up, then came back and ran a hand through Jono's hair. "All you need to be good at is giving me your opinion. Promise."

//I... I guess I never do have a problem sharing that, Jono allowed, leaning his head into Hannibal's touch. //I have all kinds of opinions, after all.//

And he was often quite outspoken about them, too.

"I had noticed." Hannibal grinned. "We can start with rings and invitations." He held his hand out for Jono. "Once you're properly back on your feet."

Jono hesitated a moment, mostly just bracing himself a little before reaching to take the offered hand.

//Rings and invitations,// he agreed. //At this point, picking a date ought to be the easy part. The venue isn't an issue, after all.//

"For which we're very lucky." He hauled Jono up gently. "Although we do still need to find an officiant."

[furnaceface]

//... Shite. That's still a thing we need?//

Jono hadn't thought that far ahead. Of course he hadn't.

//I suppose we could... ah... who on the island is even qualified to do that sort of thing?//

"Are there any heads of state still currently here?" Hannibal asked. "Apart from that...I wouldn't be surprised if your friend John were a mail-order priest of some order," he seemed the type, "but I would prefer to have someone more likely to be sober."

[furnaceface]

//I'm certain if I asked nicely, John would lay off the drink until the reception,// Jono protested, though lightly. //Or at least stick to lighter fare. Not sure, otherwise. Only royalty I know about offhand are students, and I'd really rather not have a student officiate.//

It'd just be weird, okay?

"No, I'd prefer an adult," Hannibal agreed. "Are there any priests or such that you recall being on the island that might be willing to come back for a weekend?"

He led the way upstairs, stopping for his medical kit on the way.

//Priests or such...// Jono squinted a little as he followed Hannibal up the stairs. //I know sorcerers, businessmen, and the anthropomorphic embodiment of Death - no, we aren't asking Didi to officiate - and I'm fairly certain the crew over at Luke's has experience wearing more hats than even they can readily recall. I fell out of touch with a mermaid princess, my big sibling when I was a student was a Jedi, and much as I love Karla, I'm not completely certain I'd survive whatever she's interpreted an Earth wedding ceremony to be. We've both seen her efforts at Christmas.//

He started ticking off on his fingers, next.

//Alice's weddings would likely not make any sense, Rinoa, as Sorceress, might be willing, but there's a good chance they're running her ragged these days, Cable was mayor but hell if I know how to get in touch with him, I've known several Kurts, at least one of them was an ordained priest, but I lost touch with the one I actually got along with and I think the one from my world is dead, and I'm sure the island has been home to a whole heavenly chorus of angels at one point or another, but I never really knew any of them.//

Hannibal shook his head. "We've got to find somebody. Perhaps there's someone from your world or one like it - someone familiar with similar oddities but not hostile to them."

He checked the hallway for cats before going into the studio and turning on all the lights.
