Hannibal's house (which he and Jono are glad to be back to), Sunday morning

After the last few hectic days, Hannibal slept in (and made sure Jono did his best to do the same), then took the time to make himself a proper, involved breakfast. Grapefruit, crepes, thick-cut bacon, and his best coffee.

And strawberries. Because Jono hadn't had a wonderful weekend, either.

He was going to take his time just to enjoy everything in quiet now for a while.

//Good to be home,// Jono murmured, not for the first time, as he shifted his weight again, trying to make himself comfortable. //Joni didn't seem to take our disappearance too badly, anyway.//

Beethoven was a different story, but then, wasn't he always?

//Remind me to never irritate a butler again.//

"Should the occasion arise again, I'll be certain to get out of your way." Somehow he thought Jono exploding might have taken care of the entire thing. "But I sincerely hope it won't."

He closed his eyes to properly appreciate his next bite.

//I appreciate it,// Jono replied, giving a little nod off his head. //I might just resort to screaming from the get-go from this point on, though. Seemed effective enough the other day.//

Kept them not-dead, at least. That seemed like the important bit.

"Keep to your strengths, I suppose," Hannibal said. "They seemed less prepared for psychic attacks than physical." He paused to eat some more, eyeing Jono. "How are you physically?"

//Sore,// Jono replied. There was no sense in pretending otherwise. His back was a bigger mess than usual, and nothing seemed to be sitting quite right as a result. //I'm going to need to have something done about it eventually, I suppose. I'm just not looking terribly forward to it.//

Hannibal gave him a raised eyebrow. "You'll have to fix it eventually. But if you'd rather wait a little while, I can fix it surgically for now."

He wouldn't even have to carve into Jono's back to do it; there were some advantages to having a hole in your front.

[furnaceface]

That there were, though Jono looked distinctly uncomfortable at the idea all the same.

//I don't know if I'd be able to keep from hurting you if you went in the other side,// he admitted. //This sort of pain has a funny way of making self-control... hard.//

He winced, then shifted his weight around again. Bugger.

//I suppose that's what anaesthetic is for, though.//

Yes, Jono. Modern medicine had things like local painkillers.

Hannibal nodded. "I have plenty of those. There's no reason for you to remain uncomfortable until you can heal."

[furnaceface]

//No, I suppose there's not.// Jono drummed his fingers against his knee, and then reached, carefully, to wiggle his fingers for Joni to bat at again. //Good thing I've got you about. If I were left to my own devices, I might actually be considering a trip to the clinic right about now.//

It... probably said a lot about how bad it felt, that he was admitting as much.

"Considering it and immediately preferring not to?" Hannibal asked. This was Jono, after all.

"After breakfast," he decided. "Nothing quite says 'relaxing day off' as well as a bit of surgery."

//I, for one, can't think of any way I'd rather be spending my... It's Easter, isn't it? A bit of traditional Easter bone-setting, then. Just like the Bible intended.//

... Jono was an atheist. Perhaps it showed.

"I'll try not to leave holes in your hands," Hannibal said, smirking. "Is there anything other than the ribs I should be looking for?" He'd only noticed that Jono was moving a bit gingerly; he trusted that Jono knew his own body fairly well.

[furnaceface]

//Aside from a pair of a skinned knees and what might be a fracture in my nose?//

There really wasn't much to be done for his nose, anyway.

//The ribs are by far the worst if it. They singled out that one spot and kept at it until I went down. So there's the few in the back, and then again in the side when the tall one kicked me once I was on the ground.//

It was a bit of a mess in there. He was wearing his wrappings now mostly because they restricted how much moving around he could do. It couldn't kill him, but that didn't make it any less unpleasant.

Hannibal's lips thinned. Forgive him if he bore a bit of animosity towards that particular butler.

"Just the ribs, then. And I can inject a bit of anesthetic, if your nose is bothering you." It wasn't visibly broken, so no, there wasn't much else to be done.

[furnaceface]

//Don't worry about the nose,// Jono replied, shaking his head. //So long as I don't go walking into walls or anything, it'll be fine enough. It isn't as though I really use it for much, at any rate.//

Probably for the best.

"I promise not to place any walls in your way, although of course I cannot speak for Fandom," Hannibal said.

He finished his breakfast and stacked the dishes neatly.

"I'll need better lighting than we have in the gym at present. And a reliable surface. The studio is probably easiest; we can keep out the cats that way as well."

Or, well, the cat. Beethoven was still sulking someplace.

//Works for me if it works for you,// Jono decided. //The lighting is better in there, though my flame might obscure things a bit. It usually does.//

His biology liked to make things difficult.

"I'll have to work by feel as much as sight." It was a trade-off - at least Jono had few internal organs for Hannibal to worry about.

//On the plus side, you aren't terribly likely to make things worse in there.//

It wasn't like Hannibal was operating with a sledgehammer, after all.

//Whatever it takes to get those ribs set. I'll even behave myself and take it easy for a while as they heal.//

... It would be difficult, mind.

[sharp_as_knives]

"Don't make promises you can't keep, although I appreciate the thought." Hannibal cleaned up as he spoke. "I'll try to keep you busy with things that won't tax you physically."

They did, after all, still have plenty of wedding to plan.

Jono actually shifted his weight a bit in order to turn (slightly) to look Hannibal's way, at that.

//... I'm going to regret saying this, aren't I?//

Look, they'd met. Jono was going to marry the man, he had to know by now when he'd gone and stepped in it.

Hannibal smirked. "If I recall, you said you were looking forward to helping to plan things."

[furnaceface]

... Dammit!

//Well, yes, I did say that. And I am! I'm looking forward to all of that.// But? //But I never said I was any good at it.//

There was that.

Hannibal chuckled. He finished up, then came back and ran a hand through Jono's hair. "All you need to be good at is giving me your opinion. Promise."

[furnaceface]

//I... I guess I never do have a problem sharing that, Jono allowed, leaning his head into Hannibal's touch. //I have all kinds of opinions, after all.//

And he was often quite outspoken about them, too.
