With as much prep done as possible the day before, Hannibal...was still up plenty early, due to both inclination and all the food still left to cook. He believed in doing everything right, and he also believed that the host should not spend their entire party in the kitchen.

So, with Sparkle's help, by early afternoon everything was done and being kept warm or cold, only the final just-before-plating flourishes left, and he was relaxing with a nice glass of mulled wine, ready for the guests.

Hannibal gave him a look of reproof and fondness. "I have never known you to be in the way." Then, after a moment, "Not unless you wanted to be, in any event. As I recall, you've been quite willing to defend yourself. Even if it involved putting price stickers on sharks." He chuckled. "Which is why a bit of training might not go amiss."

"Fucking sharks would have had it coming, too," Sparkle muttered under his breath, and then twitched another little smile. "I guess I could see if there's anyone on the island who could teach me more. I mean, I know this one chick that's good with a knife, and I have a few friends who can shoot. I don't know about, like, the hand-to-hand stuff, though. I guess there's always actual lessons in Baltimore, if I'm feeling really ambitious."
