Thanksgiving Dinner

With as much prep done as possible the day before, Hannibal...was still up plenty early, due to both inclination and all the food still left to cook. He believed in doing everything right, and he also believed that the host should not spend their entire party in the kitchen.

So, with Sparkle's help, by early afternoon everything was done and being kept warm or cold, only the final just-before-plating flourishes left, and he was relaxing with a nice glass of mulled wine, ready for the guests.

Say hi to Hannibal and/or Sparkle (once he pings in). Show up when you show up, dress fancy if you got it, don't if you don't.

...Don't show up nude, though. It's far too cold outside.

Mingle before dinner!

There are hors d'oeuvres beforehand, and Hannibal's very nice house to enjoy.

Food:
Mini blini napoleons
Butternut squash cannoli
Crispy potato galette with dill cream, smoked salmon, and sturgeon and osetra caviar
Chicken liver pate toasts
Pancetta-wrapped mushrooms

Drink:
Tom and Jerry cocktails
Herbal sodas
Witches' coffee
Hot spiced apple cider
The mulled wine mentioned above

Dinner!

After everyone's arrived and had a chance to be social, dinner! Hope you brought your appetites.

Salad: Beet and blood-orange salad with mint

Soup: Kabocha squash soup with crème fraiche, caramelized granny smith apple, and madras curry cotton candy

Pasta: Pasta with robiola and truffles

Main course:
Cider-glazed turkey with lager gravy
Sauteed parsnips with dates and spiced yogurt
Carrot air with mandarin concentrate
Shallot-thyme-black olive stuffing
Potatoes lyonnaise with lemon and chile


Drinks:
Water, coffee, any of the drinks from earlier, Archery Summit premier cuvée pinot noir, and Domaine Huet Vouvray le Haut Lieu Moelleux.

Mingle and collapse after dinner!

If you're still hungry, there's dessert and more drinks! If not, feel free to collapse in a well-appointed chair (or on the floor, he won't judge) and just talk or listen.

Food:
Mini cheesecakes with wine gelees
Chocolate truffle layer cake

Drink:
Anything mentioned earlier, plus Red hot ale

Sparkle was totally here, looking kind of pleased with everything. He hadn't gone super fancy with his clothes today, no, but he was at least wearing a pressed shirt and he'd omitted the crazy make-up and hair for the day.

Kind of a big deal for Sparkle, considering it wasn't even his Thanksgiving, thanks.

Hannibal smiled and handed him another glass of the mulled wine. "I think it's gone very well so far; thank you for your help. Now comes the true test."

"It was fun," Sparkle decided, grinning as he accepted the wine. "I mean, how often am I going to get a chance to work with stuff like this, right? And, like, if people like it, even better."

And if they didn't, more leftovers for Sparkle? Win/Win.

"Precisely." Hannibal toasted him. "Although I'll give you as many chances to work with this as I can."

"I guess I'll have to commit all of this to memory, huh? I mean, after grad, if I end up back in Toronto, it'll be a while before I can get anything like this going..."

He still wasn't entirely convinced that this was what he wanted to do. But it was a better idea than anything else he'd come up with so far. More stable than acting, at least. Not that Sparkle tended to deal well with stability.

Well, at least Toronto was getting an "if" now! Hannibal would accept that as progress.

"You just need a few recommendations and perhaps a patron." He grinned. "Then you convince your customers to pay for the very best." Snobs were very susceptible to that.

Right? Not that Sparkle had any plans besides Toronto. Nothing concrete, anyway.

"Ah... the trick is getting those," Sparkle replied with a little smirk. "I mean, depending on where I end up, and all. Some places are going to be easier than others."

Sparkle also lacked connections with money in Toronto. In a big way.

"I hope you know I'll help you where I can," Hannibal said. Not as if he had any connections in Sparkle's Toronto, either, but he had the right appearance to get them more easily.

"I imagine some of the others here would be willing to help as well."

Sparkle nodded a little at that, managing, barely, to refrain from scuffing his toe on the floor awkwardly.

"Yeah, I know," he replied. "I mean, if this ends up being what I want to do. I've still got... half a year or so to figure it out, I guess, anyway. I should get on that."

'Should' was such a funny word.

Raven would not miss Hannibal's cooking if she could help it. And spending time with friends was always one of her favorite past times. She'd worn one of the new dresses she'd picked up during the New York Spoil Jono Tour, though she'd worn her cloak over it rather than the new leather jacket.

He was so not made for that sort of thing. Nope. No way.

With all the animals you kept trying to steal, maybe you should have a place to put them!

"I think I stand a pretty good chance with zookeeping," Sparkle laughed. "I mean, I haven't killed my cat yet, right? That practically makes me a pro. I'll be hand-feeding tigers in no time."

Hannibal joined the laughter. "I confess I've no idea what training might be required, but I'm sure we could find out. Although I imagine the hand-feeding of predators might be something it's best to be careful with."
