Thanksgiving Dinner

With as much prep done as possible the day before, Hannibal...was still up plenty early, due to both inclination and all the food still left to cook. He believed in doing everything right, and he also believed that the host should not spend their entire party in the kitchen.

So, with Sparkle's help, by early afternoon everything was done and being kept warm or cold, only the final just-before-plating flourishes left, and he was relaxing with a nice glass of mulled wine, ready for the guests.

Raven would not miss Hannibal's cooking if she could help it. And spending time with friends was always one of her favorite past times. She'd worn one of the new dresses she'd picked up during the New York Spoil Jono Tour, though she'd worn her cloak over it rather than the new leather jacket.

"Raven. You look lovely." Hannibal reached for her hands and kiss on the cheek. "Please come in. Can I get you something to drink?"

"Thank you, Doctor Lecter," Raven said, taking his hands and offering him a kiss on the cheek in return. "And yes, please. What is it that you are drinking?"

"Mulled wine," Hannibal answered. "Perhaps not as sweet as your preference, but if you try and don't like it, I can get you something else."

"Well, you know how I feel about trying new things," Raven said with a smile. "I would love to try some."

Hannibal nodded and poured her a glass. "And how have you been? And the orphanages?"

"Busy, as always," Raven said, lifting the glass to her face so she could inhale the scent of the mulled wine. "But I think I have dealt with the worst of the orphanages. Now it is simply a matter of keeping them properly funded to the children are well cared for."

"It's good to know they have someone like you to take care of them," Hannibal said, smiling. "And how are Karla and Warren?"

It was only unfortunate the the cloak covered so much more than the leather jacket did.

"Well, I was not intending to wear the cloak all evening," Raven said, sweeping it off her shoulders, leaving them -- and her legs -- bare.

"I almost wore the jacket, but I was not certain it would be warm enough."

Raven could not help but smile at his reaction, which had been precisely what she wanted. But that didn't mean she wasn't going to tease.

"Are you all right?" she said, all innocence and concern. "You sound a little strange."

... It was most certainly not the appetizers.

"I have not yet tried any," Raven said, lips twitching as she tried not to laugh.

She looked around to find the nearest tray of appetizers and picked up a pancetta-wrapped mushroom. "Was it this one?" she said, popping it in her mouth and savoring the flavors, sending him the sensation of the nuttiness of the mushroom on his tongue, the salty spice of the pancetta, and the kick of the garlic inside.

Was she trying to kill him? She was possibly trying to kill him. Her and Hannibal, both. Jono was going to have to brace himself on the nearest-- that was a chair. He was going to brace himself on that chair, then.

Flavours were easier to appreciate still when he wasn't also paying attention to keeping the link strung up between himself and the taster.

Gonna kill him. At least he'd die happy.
