Gourmet suite at the Arms Hotel, Sunday

This was the most crowded Hannibal could recall being in quite some time. There were several children in the master bedroom, one of whom was apparently his, her other father in another bed in his room (yes, thank you, Angela, but they were not a couple here, and you could stop looking at them like that), and Jono's friends on the pull-out couch in the living room.

On the bright side, it was a built-in audience for breakfast. So Hannibal was brewing some excellent coffee while he worked as quietly as possible at cinnamon polenta pancakes, sweet potato & pork belly hash, rosemary grapefruit, thick-cut bacon, and toast from some very good, dense bread he had.

And mimosas for the adults. He had a feeling they still might need a drink.

Technically, Squall wasn't asleep. Squall slept lightly, and was able to jump from being fast asleep to completely alert at the first hint of danger. Today, Squall was pretending to be asleep, so he didn't have to deal with the kids.

He had a bit of a soft spot for preteens who were quiet and obedient and ready and willing to learn, but younger kids? NOT HIS PROBLEM.

Rinoa poked the probably-not-actually-asleep mass next to her and giggled.

"If you sleep too late, you'll miss breakfast," she sang. "And it smells awesome."

"If I sleep late enough, I'll miss all of the kids," Squall pointed out, without opening his eyes.

"Are you sulking because River's not here?" she asked. Not pointedly. Just curious. "Or just not wanting to deal with the noise level? Most of them are cute, you know."
