Hannibal's house, Thanksgiving Day
Nov. 28th, 2013 12:53 amIt was always a bit of a juggling act to both play host and oversee an entire meal, but it was one that Hannibal enjoyed. Even if he had had to adjust the menu to account for vegetarians. He'd been preparing things for days now, and with all but the finishing touches done, he was free to leave the dishes in the care of the sous chef he'd hired for the day.
He inspected the oven one last time, nodded to the woman, and retreated to the living room with hors d'oeuvres and light music, to wait for his guests.
Appetizers:
Grilled beef tenderloin on focaccia toasts
Ricotta-stuffed bacon-wrapped dates
Crostini with sun-dried tomato jam
Mushroom polenta diamonds
Paté with pomegranate gelee
Drinks: Dry sherry, Chenin blanc, home-brewed beer, or tea.
[Open to anyone who decided to come! Dinner will be in comments later; I wanted to get this up for early-time-zone folks.]
[Oh! And NFB unless the squirrels want to show up. They weren't explicitly sent invitations, but...squirrels.]

Date: 2013-11-28 12:54 pm (UTC)... Not that he'd ever really had a proper Thanksgiving, either. But the prospect of free food from one of his favourite teachers was appealing all on its own, too.

Date: 2013-11-28 04:25 pm (UTC)He somehow suspected beer, but he wasn't going to assume.

Date: 2013-11-28 05:44 pm (UTC)Hey! That cranberry sauce had been lovingly prepared!
... Plenty of the rest of what was on the table was probably store-bought, though.
"Nobody's gonna pitch a fit if I say beer, right? You have the most awesome beer."
And he could appreciate it as properly as was Sparklely possible, not having already spent a good chunk of the day trying to drink himself blind.

Date: 2013-11-28 01:12 pm (UTC)So, 'dinner.'
That said, the unsettled look was because of the looks the taxi driver had been giving him all the way here. He could wrap a scarf like a professional to hide that mouth of his, but there wasn't actually much that could be done about the fact that he was blue.
Jonothon was going to beeline for the home-brew.

Date: 2013-11-28 05:55 pm (UTC)He paused for a moment to take a mouthful of beer, and then... well, it wasn't that his knees suddenly went weak, but it seemed for a moment that maybe his ability to stand up was going to fail him at any moment all the same.
"Lord. This beer is fantastic, thank you," he breathed, holding up the glass and looking at the dark reddish liquid inside. "This is the sort you put on standby for special occasions, I should think."
It didn't taste all... American!

Date: 2013-11-29 05:28 am (UTC)ANYWAY.
Said special delivery person had a package to deliver! "Special Delivery!"
Inside said package of delivery special... was a small pink box tied with ribbons and a note on good quality paper. Hand written in proper Japanese, the note apologized that Momoko couldn't make Doctor Lecter's party and expressed her hope that he would accept the enclosed gift of handmade Nama chocolates as a personal apology and that he would forgive her for not declining sooner.

Date: 2013-11-29 02:43 am (UTC)He was almost disappointed that he'd left his backpack at the dorms today, though he probably would have had a hell of a time figuring out how to smuggle out more of that cranberry sauce without just ending up with a sticky mess.
