Hannibal's house, Saturday

Hannibal was up fairly early, but he wasn't cooking just yet - instead, he'd been indulging in a bit of uploading and photo-quality printing. He might not have a frame for it yet, but he could repurpose an existing one for the moment.

When Jono woke up and made it downstairs, he'd find a picture of them in their outfits from last night prominently displayed in the foyer. Surprise!

"Huh." Joey dropped the act completely. "You really do know my daddy."

Hannibal chuckled. "I've bandaged him up on several occasions. And he strikes me as the overprotective type."

"He is. But Mummy's worse. She doesn't hit people, but she can be real creepy when she has to be."

"That can be a useful skill," Hannibal said. He made judicious use of it himself. "Who is your mummy?" he asked. "Would I have met her?"

Joey shrugged. "Maybe? Sophie Devereaux. She played a nurse in the tenth season of the Vixen and the Knave."

"I don't think I have met her yet, but if Eliot thinks highly of her, I imagine she's quite a woman," Hannibal said.

"She's amazing. She's one of the best directors in the world." Even Joey knew better than to think she was a good actor. "But apparently here she's not even dating my daddy. This island is weird."

"Always, and in many ways," Hannibal agreed. "Have you been here before?"

"Nope. But some of the other kids who came through the portal said this happens sometimes. Did you have any kids show up for you?"

"I did," Hannibal answered, looking around and then pointing out Angela. "She is my daughter with Jono Starsmore, if you know him. Last year, I also had a son with my friend Karla. They stayed through Monday, then the portal came back for them."

Joey looked over with an expression of polite interest, even as she filed the information away for potential further use. "Have they visited before? Only you seem to be handling this situation far better than Daddy did."

Sorry, Eliot. Your potential otherworldly daughter just threw you under the bus.

"Last year was my first time, but now I've been through this once before. And I'm very adaptable," Hannibal told her. "I suspect your Daddy doesn't enjoy dealing with things he can't explain or predict."

Joey nodded. "He calmed down a little once he'd cooked everything Uncle Hardison and Aunt Parker had in their kitchen. And put some pants on."

And yes, that reversal of event order was entirely deliberate. She was maybe getting a little revenge for Daddy making her new baby sister cry.

Hannibal smirked. "Yes, that would do it, I imagine. Anything is easier to deal with given food and pants. Can I interest you in some of the former?"

"Okay," Joey said. After all, Hannibal wasn't a stranger if he was in Daddy's phone. "But I warn you, I have a very sophisticated palate."

"My favorite kind," Hannibal assured her. "I teach gourmet cooking at the school here."

Joey's eyes lit up. "Really? Is that how you know my daddy?"

"We met a few times before he began teaching, but yes, largely because of the food. And also because he has a terrible aversion to not getting hurt and a worse one to clinics," he confided.

"Mummy fusses at him about that all the time," Joey confided, voice swinging seamlessly from British to southern as she spoke. The hitter was always southern. "But getting hurt is kind of his job."

"I hope your Daddy also knows a good doctor, then," Hannibal said.

"Yup. Well. Medics, at least. Nurse Gail's my favorite. She makes Mummy all twitchy."

"And that's a good thing?" Hannibal asked, grinning. He led her (and the others) to the dining room.

"It's not like Daddy would ever do anything. Mummy twitching just means she loves him."

"That's a very good way of looking at it." Hannibal shook his head. He waved them toward the table. "Please, help yourselves. Would you like coffee, juice, or milk?"
