Hannibal's house, Sunday

Neither Hannibal nor Jono had wanted to camp this weekend, nor was either of them a particularly Easter-prone person, so a quiet day at home it was.

Or it would have been, except that Hannibal had finally gotten the last of the quotes from the contractors the other day. He now had several different designs of sauna to contemplate, as well as a selection of quotes for various heated-floor options.

His folder was fuller than it had been last week, though hopefully Jono was in a better frame of mind to deal with it. (And pay for it, because good lord.)

He'd better be, because Hannibal was coming at him with it now. And coffee, at least.

Oh, Jono...

"Of course." Hannibal pulled the others and spread them out. "This one gives more equal space to each, but removes one of the windows to do it. This one..." well, it was fairly unimaginative.

//... That one is definitely a marginally more affordable box with some seats in it, yes,// Jono agreed, squinting at it. //I think at this point, if five figures are going into this project, it had at the very least better be attractive.//

He was getting the hang of having money! Look at that!

"I very much agree," Hannibal said. "So, not that one." He folded it and set it aside, then pulled the different estimates for it and set them with it.

//Th'second one wasn't so bad,// Jono noted, tilting his head a little. //Are you showing these in order of the ones you want most to least?//

Because if there were any that were worse than the one they'd just looked at, they probably didn't have to bother.

"The others weren't worth the paper it would have taken to print them," Hannibal said. So, yes.

//Then...// Jono rearranged the papers again, so that the two different sauna designs were side-by-side. //... You had me sold on the window nooks.//

Hannibal nodded. "I see no reason to remove a window just to have a more square room." He set aside everything but the first design and grinned at Jono. "How is your head wrapping around it so far?"

//Slowly, but I'm working on it,// Jono decided, looking thoughtfully at the design again. //Helps a bit if I think less about numbers, and more about things like nooks and saunas, admittedly.//

"In the middle of winter, there will be a very hot room in the house, with a relaxing atmosphere and warm wooden seats," Hannibal tempted him. "And just think of the possibilities for a sunny window seat with comfortable cushions."

//Good lord, you keep talking like that and I might have to start fanning myself.//

Sunny windows! Hot rooms! Hannibal was speaking his language, now.

//Alright, then. The contractor who worked on the conservatory, and we'll go with this sauna and the in-floor heating. Might as well get them both done by the one who doesn't charge sales tax and who we know'll do a good job. He offered a deal on both anyway.//

That felt weirdly like Making A Decision. Was this what normal adults did? Sat around talking about hiring contractors to do home renovations?

It was, yes. And spending a lot of money! That was a thing that...well, normal-if-very-rich adults did.

Hannibal nodded. "I will let him know. Maybe if he can get it done after graduation, we could go to London meanwhile."

If everything went to plan. For them. And Fandom.

//Meaning we don't have to spend the entire time tripping over loose floorboards and toolboxes,// Jono noted, sounding approving. //We've been threatening to make that trip since your birthday. After graduation would be the perfect time for it.//

Hannibal nodded. "Will you be teaching this summer?"

//I... haven't completely decided,// Jono admitted with a shrug of his shoulders and a little bit more of a lean into Hannibal's side. //I'm not sure what I would teach, for a start. And after this semester...//

He wrinkled his nose a bit.

//I'm somewhere between tired and not convinced I'm doing nearly enough. Part of me wants to take Logan up on his offer and teach part time in New York. Another part of me misses work in the Boards. I've got no shortage of options, at least. You?//

"I'm certain I will teach," Hannibal said, "but I haven't entirely decided upon a subject. I've also been thinking for some time that I should restart my practice. Particularly as my office has only seen use once," he added wryly.

[furnaceface]

In lieu of an amused snort, Jono was just going to sit there and look smug for a moment, yes.

//Probably wouldn't hurt to use it for its intended purpose,// he allowed. //Shame to have an office just sitting there waiting for you and I to be in need of a chaise, really.//

Still a brat, yes.

"Not that I object to its other uses, but yes," Hannibal agreed. "It seems a shame to have gone to the bother of converting it from a garage only to have it sit there."

//This is just reminding me that I was going to try to figure out somewhere to set up a proper gym area,// Jono noted. //It wasn't so bad before, but since I spent last month completely knackered, I'm really feeling the lack of one now that I don't have to share with the gawking masses or program into the Danger Shop.//

"There is an exercise room downstairs," Hannibal pointed out. Not that he had much in it save for a few free weights and mats, but it was there. He was more a swimmer and runner himself.

//There... is,// Jono agreed, looking a little...

//You haven't ever seen me train in the mornings, have you?//

He needed a little more than weights and mats.

"I've generally been either cooking or running," Hannibal said. "What do you normally do?"

//Er. Combat training.//

He was still a soldier, after all.

//High bar, kettlebells, med ball throws, weighted sit-ups, heavy bag, squats, laps...//

Did you know how difficult it was to do half of those things when you were missing most of your pectoral and abdominal muscles?

//I had been thinking of, er, re-claiming one of the basement meeting rooms in the Boards. Assuming Drac was alright with that and all. I only really just own the building these days.//

That was definitely impressive for a man with so little chest. Jono's abs would probably be impressive if - when - he got them back.

"How much room do you need for those?" Hannibal asked. It seemed like most of them didn't need a lot of space. Except for the laps.

//Little more than you've got down there, really. Mostly it'd be a matter of equipment. Figuring out if the ceiling or wall could handle a chin-up bar, or if I'd be relegated to a doorway. I could probably use a treadmill, rather than running laps, and when the island isn't covered in snow, jogging - and those bloody stairs - is always good.//

His abs would be excellent. If and when. In the meantime, he was at least hell-bent on maintaining arms like he had back when he was twice his present size and blue.

"I wouldn't mind having a treadmill," Hannibal said. "What about the billiards room? I hadn't decided what to do with it yet. You can't have the grand salon." And the only other room bigger was his office.
