Hannibal's house (that Jono clearly thinks is his), Sunday

Despite Hannibal's former office well on its way to being converted to a workout room, Jono had gone out running today. Since it generally took him a while, Hannibal had decided it would be the perfect time for a very personal meal.

After his run, Jono had worked out. And then headed for the sauna. Hannibal sent him a bit of amused approval as he plated his lunch, then let him have his time alone - his wrappings hadn't gone back on in over a week now, but he had needed a bit more decompression time after returning home. It was a work in progress.

Meanwhile, he was going to enjoy his pot au feu - marrow bones to one side with some very good salt and toasted baguette slices, tender meat sliced thin with vegetables arranged nicely among the slices, and just a bit of mustard and horseradish swirled in.

Bon(e) appetit was probably too obvious a pun, wasn't it? Never mind, then.

"I'd like to see that," Hannibal said. "Although I suppose I'll still need to go elsewhere for my opera. Some of our students would undoubtedly enjoy the opportunity to act." And Jono would love producing it, but that went without saying. Mostly because it was still easier to convince him to do things for others than for himself.

//Knowing this place, any attempt at opera would be set upon by gremlins before we knew what was happening,// Jono pointed out, shaking his head. //They certainly didn't respect Wilde.//

What had Wilde ever done to them, anyway?

//Maybe I start easy,// he mused, relaxing again. //Do another showcase or something. Those usually had a better turnout anyway, and I won't be stuck in the lurch if I find I can't cast certain roles.//

Which would be a bloody disheartening way to try to ease himself back into theatre.

"That sounds like a good idea," Hannibal agreed. "You could even do both - a showcase with a shorter play in the mix."

[furnaceface]

//Worth considering,// Jono replied, thoughtfully. //I might think about doing a one-act... something. Maybe three or four actors. I usually have difficulty casting more than that.//

Small towns, eesh.

"One of the teachers has been teaching drama lately; perhaps there will be a few more interested students now," Hannibal said.

[furnaceface]

//Perhaps,// Jono replied, shrugging his shoulders just a little. //I hardly know most of the students these days. It'd be a good chance to get to know them, I suppose. In case of whatever the island throws at us next, and all that...//

"Which is another thing to consider when we work on scheduling as well," Hannibal said. He shook his head. "It would be good if we could convince the island not to throw anything at us for one weekend. Perhaps if we wait for the next invasion, and plan as soon as it's over?"

//Won't that basically involve throwing together an entire wedding, complete with invitations, cake, decorations, and whatever else needs to be done, more or less overnight?//

Jono knew you were good, Hannibal, but that one seemed a little extreme.

//If anybody can pull it off, it's you, but our off-island guests might take exception.//

"Then we set a date and hope for the best." Hannibal was dubious, but it seemed all they could do. "Summer, perhaps? There are rarely major invasions in the summer."

[furnaceface]

//Mmm, true. Alien abductions, perhaps, but rarely actual invasions.//

It was sad when that seemed like the safest course of action.

//And less of a chance of being hit with another blizzard on the wedding day. If we are, we'll know the island is specifically out to spite us, and steps will have to be taken.//

... Like marrying elsewhere.

If it weren't for the fact that there was nowhere else all their guests would be comfortable...so, the island it was.

Hannibal nodded. "Who from your world would you consider indispensable as guests? Logan and Ms Lee? We should ensure it's a date they can make it."

[furnaceface]

//Logan, Lee, Angelo,// Jono rattled off. //If I can figure out where any of the surviving New Warriors ran off to, perhaps them as well. Barry and Angel, mostly, though they've got children, and travel with that many might be... ah... a bit of a hassle.//

He wrinkled his nose a little.

//Maybe just Logan, Lee, and Ange.//

Hannibal nodded again. "So, we see how long the renovations will take, how long to get our rings, the decorations, and the flowers, and how long to procure whatever ingredients Eliot may need. Then we choose several dates after that, and see when your friends can best make plans to be here."

[furnaceface]

//That... all sounds doable,// Jono replied, and he didn't mean to sound a little astounded by that fact, and it certainly wasn't meant to be a commentary on Hannibal's planning abilities. It was just that when it came to things that didn't involve mortal peril, Jono tended to find himself easily overwhelmed.

So, 'That all sounds doable' was one hell of a compliment, all things considered.

"I'm pleased to hear it." Hannibal leaned down to kiss Jono's ear. "And we still need to find an officiant. In lieu of a priest, a justice of the peace is traditional, but in Fandom...hm. I can't see the mayor agreeing."

Not without a lot of liquor involved, anyway.

Jono tried to picture, for a moment, trying to get Tamsin to officiate the wedding.

He would have laughed at the mental image, if only he could have.

//The island seems to have a bit of a shortage in that department,// he agreed. //We might have to go back the other way, after all. But then, I don't think the island has much in the way of priests anyway.//

[sharp_as_knives]

Well, there were the Jedi, but Anakin was not invited, Atton lacked a certain gravitas, and...hm. Maybe Kenobi? Otherwise, the closest they had was probably Death, and it struck Hannibal as singularly tacky to ask an ex-girlfriend to marry them.

"We could ask and see, I suppose. Or hire somebody to visit, although we would probably want to get somebody from a world different enough that the island would be unlikely to panic them."

Maybe Cecil knew one.

[furnaceface]

Maybe, but Jono would have started to worry that Night Vale weddings probably involved ritual sacrifice, or, at the very least, strange unnerving chanting.

... On the other hand, the weather would likely be great that day.

//There aren't nearly enough places like that,// he replied, shaking his head. //I guess I could ask somebody from my world. Mutants some from all walks of life, you know? But anybody I can think of offhand is, ah, currently dead.//

Death was a bit of a revolving door back home for some. So.

"We'll have to give it some thought. With all the people from different worlds here, I'm certain we'll be able to find someone suitable."

[furnaceface]

//There are options,// Jono agreed. //We just need to explore them, is all.//

This was going to go smoothly, dammit. They were going to see to that.

Really.

"We have plenty of time," Hannibal said. "We'll discover our options and choose one."

Nothing was going to go wrong. At all.
