Hannibal's house (which isn't Jono's yet!), Saturday

Hannibal had done his research, gotten samples and photo files and quotes, and had narrowed it all down to a number of possibilities for engagement announcements. Simply posting it in the papers as was traditional would have been simpler, but given the number of cities, worlds, and times to cover, and the potential for some of them not being covered at all, this was the only way to ensure they missed nobody.

Now he just had to pin down Jono.

Possibly literally.

"You are an adult," Hannibal pointed out. "And in your world, and given your upbringing and genetics, that is quite an accomplishment as well."

He wasn't going to make this easy for you, Hannibal.

"That would be a bit much," Hannibal said. "But 'Mr' is only two letters."

Honestly, Jono.

//It is,// Jono muttered. //But Hannibal proposed to Jonothon. Doctor didn't propose to Mister.//

Mister was not even in the same hemisphere as the almond porridge at the time. Mr Starsmore probably would have been far more composed about finding the damn nut in the breakfast he hadn't asked for, for a start.

Damn. And Hannibal couldn't even argue tradition; he was hardly a slave to it, after all. He could, of course, talk Jono into it, but was this worthy of a battle?

"More informal for these, and full titles for the invitations?" he suggested.

[furnaceface]

Jono gave an uncomfortable little squirm, but... hell, it seemed like a fair enough compromise. Save the formal titles for the formal invitations, and keep the announcements comfortable.

Maybe he'd have his head wrapped around little things like formality by the time they'd settled on a date.

//That'll work,// he grudgingly allowed. //But if General even comes up when we're designing those ones, I'm taping all your neckties to the scratching post.//

All was fair in love and wedding invitations.

"No General," Hannibal promised. "You've no need to threaten my neckties."

//Good.// Jono relaxed a little at that, looking back at the mock-up. //My name's too bloody long for that sort of thing anyway.//

Well, it was! And Jono wasn't about to have the same argument all over again with his middle name. At least he didn't mind his middle name, so much.

It was hardly Hannibal's fault he didn't have a middle name. Unless you counted "the Cannibal", which he definitely wasn't. If for no other reason than he refused to pay Chilton royalties.

"There's not much to be done about that," Hannibal said with a shrug. "So, like this, and shall I send off the order?"

Jono was pretty sure that including 'the Cannibal' on the wedding invitations would probably give people entirely the wrong idea.

Or, ah, maybe the right one. But not a good one?

//Send it off,// he decided with a nod. //The sooner you do, the sooner we can figure out when people are free, and get to picking the actual date and working toward that. You still need to coerce me into a suit that looks good next to yours, after all.//

"I imagine I'll find something," Hannibal said, grinning. He sent off the order. "Now, would you like to share some tea while you shop for a stereo?"

//I'd love to,// Jono decided, nodding.

Hey, he still wasn't a tea person, but beggars couldn't be choosers, and it wasn't as though Hannibal's tea was unpleasant, after all.
