Hannibal's house, Sunday morning

Jono had slept straight through the night - a miracle Hannibal was perfectly ready to take credit for. He wasn't likely to sleep much longer, though, so Hannibal was headed back upstairs with the simple omelette he'd made for breakfast and a good-sized carafe of coffee.

"Celebrating," Hannibal countered. "A bit more skin and a bit more sleep." He sat on the bed with his tray and smiled at Jono. "How is your head?"

//Feels a bit less like somebody beat on it with a brick,// Jono offered, stretching, and then sitting up and looking curiously at the omelette. //Hell, I should even be able to pay enough attention to pick up on what you're tasting, this morning. So I've recovered just th'right amount, I'd say.//

"Pleased to hear it." Hannibal kissed Jono's temple. "I think we accomplished quite a bit yesterday, and I've some ideas on how to proceed in the future. But not today," he promised. He started in on breakfast.

[furnaceface]

//Lord, no, definitely not today,// Jono agreed, happily leaning against Hannibal a little while he ate. //I keep going about it like that on a regular basis, and I'll sprain my brain again.//

Emma would kill him!

//I'd be interested in hearing your ideas, though.//

Hannibal nodded and spoke between bites. "For one thing, I believe it will get easier with time, as you learn what to do. I doubt that comes as a surprise. For another, I think the primary difficulty is in focusing your power while remaining relaxed enough for it to work." He quirked a smile at Jono. "I think you need to practice meditation."

[furnaceface]

Jono ducked his head. Oh, wow. It had been a while since he'd been told that one.

//I used to meditate back in high school, actually,// he shared. //The mayor of the island at the time Mayor Summers,// Cable, //taught me. It was mostly about powers control then, too, but the endgame at the time was more about not accidentally leveling the island, which had seemed a touch more important than repairing my face.//

Back then, anyway.

"And it seems to have worked well for you in that regard," Hannibal said, "as the island is still standing."

[furnaceface]

//I only accidentally blew up things I wasn't meant to a few times since then,// Jono agreed. //And those things were generally restricted to 'my face and chest.'//

Again and again. And again.

He was good at that.

[sharp_as_knives]

"We'll try to avoid more of that," Hannibal promised. "So, as I said, I think we did quite well. But, more importantly, how do you think we did?"

[furnaceface]

//We made progress,// Jono replied, sounding a little bewildered as his hand moved to brush fingertips along the edge of his flames. //Not much, but... more than I figured we might. More than I thought I could. That's... it's bloody remarkable, I think.//

"Good." Hannibal smiled and focused on his coffee as he finished his omelette. "So, today we relax? I should warn you that the island is being somewhat odd. I thought perhaps we could take our bikes someplace."

[furnaceface]

//Odd?// Jono tilted his head a little at that. //... That explains the general air of 'different' around here, then. I'd happily get on a bike to have a bit of distance from that. Anywhere in particular, or just a Sunday ride?//

[sharp_as_knives]

Hannibal spread his hands. "Your choice. We could visit a museum or library, or simply drive."

[furnaceface]

//Drive until we see something we'd like to take in, perhaps? No reason we can't just go wherever we end up on a whim, is there?//

It was entirely possible that Jono was just having a very indecisive day.

[sharp_as_knives]

"No reason at all." It was entirely possible Hannibal adored living by whim. He finished his cup and leaned back against Jono for a moment. "More coffee?"

[furnaceface]

//I will never say no to more coffee,// Jono decided, resting his head on Hannibal's shoulder.

This was nice.

//Hell, one of these days, you'll have to start making twice as much.//

Hannibal raised an eyebrow at Jono. "However will I manage?" He poured another cup and added just a touch of sugar. "I'll have to learn how you take it as well. And I imagine you'll expect me to cook."

Because that was such a chore.

[furnaceface]

//Well, I can cook, but I don't know that you'd tolerate me touching things in your kitchen,// Jono noted, letting amusement creep into his words. //Or how many days in a row you'd let me get away with making anything with 'in the hole' in the name.//

[sharp_as_knives]

"I suppose in that case, I'll simply have to force myself to cook for you as well," Hannibal said, smirking at him. He drank a bit more coffee, sharing the taste.

[furnaceface]

//Mmmmm, and I suppose I'll have to eat it.//

You could tell this was a horrible proposition by the way he was a big noodly mess of fire and cuddles right now. Coffee was still his most secret of weaknesses.

And here Hannibal had thought that was strawberries!

"A terrible burden," Hannibal agreed. "Shall I pack a thermos of coffee to bring with us?"

[furnaceface]

See, and strawberry coffee anything would probably just right up and kill him.

"Yuh."

...

That was a yes to the coffee. Followed by a shameless nuzzle. And then Jono was reluctantly sitting up so that he could figure out where his bandages had gotten off to.

Fortunately those two tastes didn't necessarily go together.

Hannibal smiled. "Your wrappings are in the closet. If you'd like to shower first, I'll pack the coffee and a snack."

[furnaceface]

Well, maybe if there was added chocolate...

//That'd be excellent, thank you,// Jono replied, pulling himself out of bed and to his feet. Where he stood for a moment, just to be certain he wasn't still wobbly after yesterday. No, apparently he wasn't, thank goodness, so he made his way to the closet to poke through for clothes. //I won't be terribly long, at any rate.//

Probably. Maybe he'd spend an hour in there just trying to see if he could spot any difference in the mirror.

It was better than avoiding them.

"Nor will I." Hannibal gathered the tray up again and gave Jono's shoulder a squeeze as he headed out. "I'll just pack the coffee, a sandwich, and maybe some fruit."
