Hannibal's house, Sunday

So, Hannibal had half as many children himself this weekend as he had last time, but that hadn't made it any less hectic or full of cooking. And he wouldn't even pretend that he minded. At least this time he had his own kitchen.

So, he was up early again today, getting started on breakfast for the crowd. He was one carafe of coffee and a set of recipe cards into it when Angela stumbled down, yawning, and grinned at him. "I thought I could sous-chef again, if you like." She kissed his cheek.

Hannibal smiled back. "That would be lovely; thank you. What do you think?" He fanned the recipe cards out for her to see.

"I like it," she decided. "I'll start cutting."

Breakfast menu:
Crepes with honeyed oranges
Apple, brie, and prosciutto crepes
Crepes with pears, gouda, and fresh thyme
Leek, apple, fennel sausage, and goat cheese crepes
Peanut butter and jam crepes (Shush, there were bound to be young ones around.)
Maple-espresso bacon
Blood pudding
Creamy French scrambled eggs
Pancetta and gruyere strata
Fresh orange juice
Organic milk
An assortment of teas
As much coffee as Hannibal can possibly brew

Due to Portalocity being Portalocity, it wasn't until Sunday morning that the current-timeline Worthington clan showed up. Minus the elder two (much to Dinah's disappointment, surely) who had gone off to spend the weekend at the Hall with 'Auntie J.'

"Kiss kiss," Karla called. "We brought cinnamon bread!"

No worries, folks. Ermengarde had made it.

Hannibal checked that nothing would burn if he stepped away and went to greet them.

"I'm pleased you could make it." He reached to shake Warren's hand and hug Karla. "Yours are still asleep, I think."

"Thank you for making sure they had a place to stay," Karla said, pressing a kiss to Hannibal's cheek. "I know Della would have been all right, but where Nommy would have ended up sleeping worries me."

She remembered him at fifteen, with Emma and Jack's triplets.

"Of course!" Hannibal answered. "Although I doubt you need have worried." He chuckled. "The flamingos might not have let him leave." They had really seemed to adore him.

Nommy had apparently been born with the ability to befriend waterfowl. Unlike either of his parents.

"Any luck on finding out his real name yet?" she asked.

"I haven't asked, I'm afraid," Hannibal said. "He seems to prefer Nommy."

Which, for the record, could not even be Hannibal's fault!

"What he prefers is to be a right pain in the ass," Karla muttered. "We'll see who laughs when I just give up and name him that for real."

"Jono, I imagine," Hannibal replied. "And likely Dinah and Momoko."

Because your friends were terrible, Karla; didn't you know that?

JJ dragged himself up to the kitchen, following the smell of the bacon.

"G'Morning," he mumbled as he stretched.

"Good morning, JJ." Hannibal smiled and nodded at him. "Coffee?"

"We've got plenty of cream and sugar, even if you drink it like your mom!" Angela teased from her place at the counter.

"No one should drink coffee like mom," JJ shuddered. "But I think I'll just stick with OJ, if there is any? I can still taste the stuff they call coffee at the bakery yesterday."

He leaned over to look. "Whatcha making?"

"OJ it is." Angela went to get that for him. "Crepes," she answered, "lots of them! And bacon and eggs and blood pudding."

"Mmmm sounds delicious!" JJ approved. "Except for the blood pudding, of course. I still don't get why people eat that."

"Because it's delicious," Angela said. She passed him a glass of orange juice and went back to slicing things. "Dad never taught you a proper appreciation for British food?"

"Of course. Well, as much as you can for British food." He leaned against the counter, sipping his juice and trying to steal a slice from her finished pile. "But that doesn't mean I like all of it. As enjoyable as cooking for large groups was, and as interesting as all the possible children were, eventually even Hannibal needed a bit of quiet.

He left the others as they were and snuck off to the music room - it was soundproofed and very quiet, and he could put on a bit of ambient music at low volume and decompress.

Angela saw him go and let him have a bit of time before she followed. She slipped in when no-one was looking and closed the door firmly before she came over to wrap her arms around Hannibal from behind and kiss the top of his head. "Mind a bit of quiet company?"

Hannibal smiled up at her. "Not at all. Although I was expecting your Dad to find me in here first. I'm surprised he's lasted this long in the crowd."

Look, Jono had actually been in and out of side rooms since the kids started arriving. Just, for small stints at a time. This had been intended to be one such break. Apparently, he'd picked the wrong room for alone time.

Hannibal chuckled. "Surprised you have, even with your breaks." Yes, he'd noticed. He held out a hand for Jono to join him on the sofa. "Please. Why not make it father-father-daughter moment?"

"These weekends always seem a bit frantic," Hannibal said. "As much as I enjoy them, I can't help but think it might be better if everybody didn't come all at once."
