Hannibal's house, Saturday

Hannibal was up fairly early, but he wasn't cooking just yet - instead, he'd been indulging in a bit of uploading and photo-quality printing. He might not have a frame for it yet, but he could repurpose an existing one for the moment.

When Jono woke up and made it downstairs, he'd find a picture of them in their outfits from last night prominently displayed in the foyer. Surprise!

"Exactly! I still don't know why his code name isn't Fozzy." He scrolled through his phone and

--skipped past the close-up one of Mr Logan growling in JJ's face when he noticed JJ was taking pictures of him--

offered Jono the photo of Mr Logan in his hat trying to help Missy erect her tent.

"Mr Logan's a nice guy, though. It really was just a prank. I apologized when they found out it was me." Like he was going to admit it otherwise? Mr Logan was nice but could be as scary as Da'!!

"Uhm. Is it okay if I hope you don't? At least for another three years or so?"

... Well, that wasn't foreboding or worrisome at all. Really.

You were being side-eyed, JJ. Side-eyed so much.

"'Cause, uhm." He rubbed the back of his neck and looked everywhere but at his dad. "That's when mom gets stuck here and you save her..."

And his world becomes the real one and not all these kind of scary ones where he doesn't exist...

... Okay, that was a pretty good reason, Jono had to admit. He reached to put a hand on JJ's shoulder.

//What will happen will happen,// he said, gently. //You exist somewhere. What I do here isn't going to change that. Somewhere, there's an Angela. And a Kathe, I'm sure of it, even if she didn't pay us a visit this year. And a Ruby. You haven't met Ruby yet. Rinoa's got her today. But she's just as real as the rest of you.//

And there was a strong certainty in those words. He couldn't bring himself to think for a moment that just because they didn't exist in this timeline, they weren't real somewhere else. He'd danced though too many alternate realities to think it for even a moment.

This was why Da's lectures were the worst. He made you feel his words as much as hear them!

JJ stepped forward and reached to hug him. //Okay,// he sent. //Love you, dad.//


//... That's okay, right?//

//Of course, mate,// Jono replied, pulling JJ into a strong hug and holding him close. //We're family. I love you, too.//

That was the crazy thing about all of these kids. Whether he'd ever be able to call them actually his or not, he definitely loved them all.
