Hannibal's House: After-BDE Trauma Party

Yet another island oddity had come and gone, and yet again it seemed to have taken a mental and physical toll on several people Hannibal rather liked. So tonight he was cooking comfort foods and low-snobbery (but still gourmet) snacks, tea, and hot chocolate, and his bar was very well stocked.

He'd talked to the other researchers and sent messages to his friends welcoming them to join him if they wanted (except for Jono's, which had been more of a politely worded demand for his presence), but the lights in the house were on and the door was open, if anyone else felt they needed company.

Or just to sit in the corner and cry. Hannibal wouldn't judge. He might take notes, though.

There was food:
Mini grilled-cheese sandwiches (artisan cheese, home-baked bread, probably some with moddable! things like capers or veggies or ham)
Tiny meat pies
Roasted potatoes with salt and rosemary
French fries which tried for greasy and didn't quite have the heart to make it, sorry Jono!
Tiny pies of moddable fruit
Ice cream of several flavors (lavender and honey! vanilla bean! dark chocolate! moddable!)
Chocolate truffles of various moddable! flavors
Other assorted moddable, go to town! things

And drink - if it's a high-end liquor, it's here. Also home-brewed people beer and good wine, both dry and sweet.

"You and half the people on the island?" Hannibal squeezed Sparkle's shoulder again. "Perhaps you're being less cautious than you ought. But if you're overly cautious your entire life, that becomes a different problem."

"Maybe," Sparkle muttered, "but I'd probably spend a lot less time dying."

Because dying was something of an issue on its own, wasn't it?

"You would also spend much less time living," Hannibal countered.

[myownface]

"It's way easier to spend time living while you're actually alive," Sparkle pointed out. "Undead doesn't count either. I've done the vampire thing like twice now. It's not winning me over at all."

"True," Hannibal agreed. "The trick is to find a happy medium, I suppose."

[myownface]

"Starting," Sparkle said, "with not dying all the time."

If only that came with an easy fix, right?

"That would probably be advisable, yes." Hannibal ruffled Sparkle's hair (then fixed it again, because he was neat like that).

Considering the fact that Sparkle's hairstyle was usually best described as 'lost a battle with a light socket,' he kind of had to take a moment to give Hannibal an amused look at the post-ruffle hair-fixing.

"I'm not going to stop living," he shared. "Like, what happened this weekend doesn't change much, except that I stop trusting things around here without question. Murder Carnivals that mind-wipe you and make you sic evil teddy bears on people aren't really a thing back home. Fandom's just... screwed up. Fandom."

Hey, there was an art to messy hair!

"It certainly does have its moments." Hannibal liked them; it kept things interesting. But he could see how it could be a downside. "But it also has many good ones."

[myownface]

"Guess I got a cat out of the deal," Sparkle mumbled, nodding a bit. "Gonna have to check him in to the shelter for a week while I'm in Canada, though. We can't have pets in the home."

Nothing was going Sparkle's way this week and he was prepared to grump about all of it.

Damn. Hannibal did like animals (not just like that), and shelters were...well.

"You can leave him here, if you like," he offered. "But I will be in Baltimore, so somebody else will have to look after him."

[myownface]

"Yeah? I mean, I could probably get Kenzi to check up on him, or, um, maybe Cecil, if he's up to it..."

Cecil seemed less likely to pocket something. Sparkle and Kenzi were cut from very similar cloth that way.

"... Thanks."

[sharp_as_knives]

Hannibal looked pained. "Maybe you should ask Cecil. It would be quieter."

Even if he wasn't going to be here to hear it, he didn't want that song blaring any more than necessary!

"And you're quite welcome."
