Gourmet suite at the Arms Hotel, Sunday

This was the most crowded Hannibal could recall being in quite some time. There were several children in the master bedroom, one of whom was apparently his, her other father in another bed in his room (yes, thank you, Angela, but they were not a couple here, and you could stop looking at them like that), and Jono's friends on the pull-out couch in the living room.

On the bright side, it was a built-in audience for breakfast. So Hannibal was brewing some excellent coffee while he worked as quietly as possible at cinnamon polenta pancakes, sweet potato & pork belly hash, rosemary grapefruit, thick-cut bacon, and toast from some very good, dense bread he had.

And mimosas for the adults. He had a feeling they still might need a drink.

Oh, thanks for throwing him under that bus, Uncle Hannibal. Collin glanced over at Kayla, winced, wondered if he'd ever had that much volume, and then got up to fetch Kayla the plates.

"One for Uncle Hannibal, one for mom, one for dad, two for me, one for Kayla..."

If Collin was unsure about that, there were several videos at home that could probably be referenced. The one titled 'Ring Bear' could probably stand as witness all by itself.

At his counting, Kayla gasped, launching herself into the air so she could be face to his stupid face. "You on't get two!" she accused. "You don't get more'n everybody else! That's not fair, you can't have two!"

"I'm a growing mutant Prince, filling out the last of my wingspan, with a Healing factor finally starting to reach its full stride," Collin sniffed. "I need all I can possibly get. It's for my metabolism."

That was actually accurate, if exaggerated somewhat. All of what he'd said was true, after all.

But he'd really just grabbed that other plate in order to torment his sister. Just the same way he was making a point to use long words, now.

"Your 'tabolism is stupid, just like you," Kayla sniffed, refusing to be goaded by the likes of her stupid brother. "Besides, you'll just fill up on boogers. Cause you pick your nose and eat it."

And, just to make sure everyone else was aware of what was going on, she raised her voice and chanted, "Booger-eater, booger-eater, Nommy is a booger-eater!"

And if that was the best she was going to do, Collin was just going to laugh and reach around her for more plates.

"That's one for Aunt Momoko, and one for JJ, and one more for me..."

Yeah, Collin and his stupid metabolism were going to go there.

Yeah, well, they'd see how useful his stupid metabolism was when Kayla kicked him right in his shin.

For a tiny girl, she was able to unerringly aim for the same place every time she kicked him. He'd already been sporting an impressive bruise there when she nailed it again.

"Kayla!" Hannibal said sharply without raising his voice. "No flying in the kitchen."

"But--but--" Perhaps Unca Hanni was unaware of the enormity of the injustice going on here. "But he got two plates! For himself! And one for everybody else!"

She was, however, obediently settling back to the ground.

"If he feels he needs two, he may have two, although I doubt he'll find room for them on the table," Hannibal pointed out reasonably. "If you feel you need two, you may also have two. Provided you do not fly in my kitchen."

"He doesn't need two," Kayla sulked. "He's just bein' selfish. Even Mommy doesn't need two plates and she eats everything."

Realizing a bit of buttering up wouldn't hurt, she added, "'Specially when you come over and cook, cause your food is the deliciousest."

"Thank you, Kayla." Hannibal nodded at her. "And don't worry; there will be enough food for everybody, and no matter how many plates he has, he still has only one mouth. We'll make sure you get enough."
