Arms Hotel, Saturday evening

After spending a bit more handwavy fruitless time in the library, Hannibal had headed back to the hotel to relax, check the news, catch up on his e-mail, and do a bit of actual work. Having done that, he switched to more casual dress and put his feet up on the couch, reading on his tablet.

He hadn't seen Jono all day, and if there was any chance there were more dinosaurs out there...well, he had enough meat for some time already.

Whatever else he was, this Sparkle certainly seemed to be at least as much of a predator. Hannibal smiled back. "On my way to class Tuesday, I paid for passage past them with glögg. They seemed rather taken with me after that. If you'd like me to accompany you to bring Amelia her dinner...?"

Just because he didn't tend to lure his victims, didn't mean he didn't know how it was done.

"Well, she'll be up in the dorms," Sparkle noted, frowning thoughtfully. "Pretty sure you're not supposed to be up in there."

Yeah, a guy who was seriously contemplating hunting down and decimating a few Vikings was being a stickler for the 'no teachers in the dorms' rule.

"Not like it takes long to rip somebody's throat out with my teeth, of course. And I probably should eat before I head back. I promised I'd take her out hunting after her dinner."

He had a strict 'no eating people in front of Amelia' rule. He didn't want to upset his cute little pet human.

"As a teacher," Hannibal pointed out, "it would be remiss of me not to escort one of my students home as far as the entrance to the dorms. Your little Amelia hunts?" he asked curiously.

"Monsters," Sparkle agreed, smiling faintly. Sure, Hannibal was welcome to see him back to the dorms if it made him happy. It wasn't like he was going to argue. "She has for a while. Got all excited when she saw the creatures that were crawling around outside, you know? This is the sort of thing she grew up learning how to do. She handles a gun better than most people I know manage to tie their shoelaces."

"To be fair, there are people who are abysmal at that," Hannibal pointed out. "It's good to know she can keep herself safe, though." Even if the thought of her hunting monsters and being guarded by Sparkle - this one or his own - was rather amusing.

"If you would rather hunt, I can simply give you the food to take to her," Hannibal offered. "But if you're feeling more hungry than predatory, my offer stands."

And when put like that... Well, how could Sparkle possibly say no?

"You said you have a half-decent relationship with the Vikings that are out there?"

Because that certainly had him intrigued. And he was hungry.

"It would be more fun than making a pit-stop at the bar for that artificial blood crap."

Hannibal grimaced. "I should hate to think of you resorting to that. Yes, and I should still have some wine around here to jog their memory if needed."

"You put up with a few indignities in order to not wind up dusted," Sparkle replied with a shrug of his shoulders. "I have to at least look like I'm trying. People get suspicious, otherwise."

Especially since he'd already kind of eaten Sholeh, and all. Oops.

"Anyway," he added, slipping into an easy grin, "if I'm running around with you out there, maybe you can take care of my leftovers, hm?"

Saved him from having to hide the bodies.

"I don't exactly have the equipment here for much," Hannibal pointed out. "But there are enough other predators out there that it should be enough to carve away any obvious marks." And bodily fluids, presuming vampires even left them.

He gave Sparkle a look of mild reproof. "Don't get accustomed to it. I don't make it a habit of cleaning up after others." Which might have been more foreboding if he weren't clearly teasing. Well, what could you say? He was really rather fond of Sparkle.

"Right, I wouldn't want to presume," Sparkle laughed, shaking his head a little. "Extenuating circumstances, and all. You're just being a responsible teacher helping a student not starve during a crisis around the island."

See? See how helpless Sparkle was? He clearly needed this assist.

"Precisely. Not to mention keeping you out of the bars." He was a very responsible teacher. "Let me get that wine and some food for Amelia, and we can be on our way."
