Hannibal's house, Friday evening

Jono, for once, was waiting for Hannibal - some people, after all, had to eat. Or more to the point, clean up the dishes after. When he was done, he picked up his tablet and joined Jono in the music room. "Surrounded by inspiration for inspiration?" he asked.

//What better place to be inspired to come up with ways to... inspire?// Jono squinted faintly, and then shrugged his shoulders a little. //Anyway, it's nice in here. I'd probably just camp out in this room forever if I didn't have to do things like 'work' or... mostly work, I suppose.//

Boy really needed to get better at taking breaks.

"And never visit the library?" Hannibal teased. He sat by Jono and pulled up the document he'd started on earlier. "I've had a few ideas already, and I'm certain you have as well."

//... Well, I suppose if we could set up a portal between here and the library, that would work just as well,// Jono allowed, because he was allowed to amend his previous statement if he wanted to, dammit. //Here, let's see what you had in mind, and then I can start listing things off as well. We've only got to fill up half the summer, after all. Should be easy enough.//

They'd probably end up wishing the summer was longer, really.

"I suspect the problem will be narrowing it down," Hannibal agreed with the narration. His list so far included the Piazza della Signoria, an ice cave near Mutnovsky volcano, the original performance of Stravinsky's Rite of Spring, an ice hotel and aurora borealis, the Sedlec Ossuary, a space station, and the Holocaust museum. "What do you think?"

//I think we're going to need a longer summer if we're going to fit in all of your suggestions and still have room for a few of mine,// Jono teased, looking over the list. //Didn't-- er, didn't the first performance of Rite of Spring go a bit to hell?//

He was a touch iffy on taking the kids to a near-riot. Though he could understand the draw, all the same.

"Those who aren't inspired by the ballet or music, might be by the reaction to it," Hannibal answered. Several of his suggestions had both positive and negative connotations; you never knew what might inspire. "What were your thoughts on destinations so far?"

[furnaceface]

//A bit of nature, a bit of the accomplishments of mankind, not unlike your list,// Jono confided. //Maybe see if there's a way to catch a portal to witness the Wright Brothers' first flight. Then there's the Grand Canyon, or Niagara Falls, maybe even the Savage Land. Keeping the students safe there might even be easier than not losing track of them in the middle of a riot.//

It wasn't 'negative' that Jono took exception to, so much as 'dangerous,' after all.

"The Savage Land?" Hannibal asked. It certainly sounded interesting.

[furnaceface]

//Another one of those things that sets my world apart from most others?// Jono guessed. //It's, er... It's in Antarctica. It's this lush bloody jungle in the middle of Antarctica of all places. Full of all manner of wildlife, though the most notable sort might be the dinosaurs.//

Yes, really.

//... If you're not up for that, Portalocity's been advertising discounted all-expense trips to this theme park in a place called Isla Nublar that'll do in a pinch.//

"I would rather the natural jungle than a theme park," Hannibal said, surprising Jono not at all. "That sounds quite interesting." He added it to his list. "Perhaps for the others, we could find places less frequented? While they are quite impressive, I find that effect somewhat lessened by the excessive tourism."

[furnaceface]

//Well, there's always time travel for that,// Jono mused. //The Great Sphinx at a time when it didn't overlook a Pizza Hut, Stonehenge before tourists started flocking to it. A helicopter flight over the hummingbird etching in Peru before Greenpeace went and ruined it.// That was what Photoshop was for, assholes. //Hell, we could leap ahead a few thousand years and take them to the ruins of places that are thriving cities today. Or we could suit up and take them for a trip to Chernobyl.//

If Hannibal was up for the bad along with the good, and all.

Hannibal hummed in thought. "I'm inclined to stay within our own time more often than not, or within times we can adequately research beforehand. I like the idea of Chernobyl, though. Both the impressive accomplishments of human science, and the incredible danger. What would you say to Pompeii?" He smirked. "Today; not during the eruption."

//That'd be fascinating, actually,// Jono replied, looking thoughtful. //Still has that danger of being frequented by too many tourists, but most things worth seeing will have that problem, I imagine.//

During the eruption would certainly be a memorable experience as well, though, wouldn't it?

//I wonder how difficult it would be to get into a submarine and take a trip to some of the harder-to-reach parts of the ocean floor...//

"What about that submarine Barry built?" Hannibal asked. "Or are there too many bad memories?"

Jono winced just faintly.

//I suppose that would depend on what students we end up with in our class,// he decided. //I mean... I could handle it. Rapture was unpleasant at the best of times, but those weren't my traumas. It pushed a lot of things I'm already familiar with to extremes, but...//

He shrugged.

//If any of our little Rapture away team ends up in our class, I could probably arrange for something else. If not, it's not really a concern.//

"Perhaps we'll keep that as a possibility, then, dependent upon our students." Hannibal made a note of it.

[furnaceface]

//Works for me,// Jono decided. //So long as we're not running it into any underwater cities infested with homicidal mutated maniacs and insane cultists, I'm happy.//

Jono was pretty easy to please, that way.

//I suppose just taking them to an art gallery would be too obvious, hm?//

"No underwater cities with insane cultists and mutated maniacs; I'll make a note," Hannibal said. "And a bit obvious, yes, though I'm not opposed. Did you have a particular museum in mind?"

[furnaceface]

//None offhand,// Jono admitted, shrugging his shoulders. //I suppose the Louvre would be both too obvious and too crowded, though, hmm?//

"Very likely," Hannibal agreed. "But they do have private evening tours." He quirked a smile at Jono. "As does the Musée d'Orsay."

[furnaceface]

//... That's bloody brilliant,// Jono decided, nodding thoughtfully. //It'd be a hell of a lot easier to appreciate what they have on display that way. And with a guide who can answer any questions the students might have? Even better.//

"I'll give them a call and get more information," Hannibal said, nodding. Then he shook his head at their list. "We could do this all year and not finish." It was quite nice, actually.

[furnaceface]

Jono was thinking much the same thing.

//It's a marked improvement on getting halfway through the summer and then not having the slightest clue how to fill the rest of the classes,// he decided. //Not that there's really any shortage of inspiring things in the world.//

"Never," Hannibal said, smiling. "It's one of the more wonderful things about life."

[furnaceface]

//Life is delightful that way,// Jono decided, leaning to the side a little to bump his shoulder against Hannibal's. //I think I'll keep it.//

Hannibal laughed. "I'm pleased to hear it." He smiled at Jono and wrapped one arm around him. "The world is more interesting for having you in it."

//I should hope so,// Jono decided, settling in and making himself comfortable there. //What's the point of being here if we can't even make the world a slightly less boring place?//
