Hannibal's house, Saturday

Hannibal was up fairly early, but he wasn't cooking just yet - instead, he'd been indulging in a bit of uploading and photo-quality printing. He might not have a frame for it yet, but he could repurpose an existing one for the moment.

When Jono woke up and made it downstairs, he'd find a picture of them in their outfits from last night prominently displayed in the foyer. Surprise!

"That's Aunt Parker!" Ada said proudly. "She's the very best at that! And she makes it look so easy. Like stealing diamonds from the French National Bank!"

And in case he didn't get that, she explained, "That's like stealing candy from a baby."

"Well..." Ada didn't want to stop Parker from making friends. "It's not that she won't like it? She likes lots of things, especially if they're sweet. But she doesn't really notice the way food compliments one another or the subtle blending of flavors or a nicely plated presentation. That's all."

She ate cereal out of a box. Making sure food that was just going to be eaten first looked visually appealing struck her as a waste of time.

So did Parker. They had remarkably similar eating habits, though Parker lacked Sparkle's fondness for Kraft Dinnah and other Canadian cuisine.

"We're trying," Ada said, with a long-suffering sigh. "But they're so stubborn. Papa says that he needs foods that can be eaten over a laptop, but I think he just likes being contrary. He and Daddy like to bicker."

Ada made a face. "He says that is man were meant to eat raw fish, they wouldn't have invented the microwave."

Seriously, her Papa was the worst.

"My Daddy wears that look a lot," Ada said knowingly. "He nearly through the microwave away when Aunt Parker tried to bake potatoes in it but forgot to poke holes in them first."

But, hey, she'd been proven right. Everything explodes.

"So now when he's gone, I'm in charge of heating up whatever meal he left for us. Or we get takeout from one of the five pre-approved places in the city."

"Oh, I cook!" She would, in fact, be de-veining shrimp for a risotto just two days hence. "But Daddy prefers that I have an adult nearby when I use the stove or knives--" cue epic eye roll "--and Papa and Aunt Parker don't count, cause they need more supervision in the kitchen than I do."

"She's a bigger fan of her taser," Ada said brightly. "And improvised weaponry."
