It was fairly quiet this time of night, though there were probably still one or two around for the late-night room service and prep for tomorrow. Hannibal was hoping they could be convinced or paid into helping, or at least not actively hindering.

If it came down to it, he was perfectly prepared to truss them up in a corner; it would be a kindness far above spam!

"Darling, you're from Fandom," Karla pointed out. "No one believes you're impressionable." She winked at him. "But if it looks like we're in trouble, I promise I shall bravely stay until the bitter end while my students make a run for it."

"I'm not impressionable," Kaylin said. "Nobody in any of the worlds would believe that. And I wouldn't leave you here while I ran."

She wouldn't. She liked Karla. Karla seemed to understand her.

"Plus you have a baby to take care of."

Because she couldn't look all sentimental, now could she?

"I'm an innocent little lamb," Anders said, mock-offended despite his wink back at Karla, "but I would absolutely leave the adults and run. Sorry, Kaylin. You can be the martyr this time if it's needed."

He doubted it would be.

"Are you kidding? Babies are great for excuses." Karla was the best role model ever. "I start yelling, Kayla starts crying, people start falling all over themselves trying to get out of the way."

Kaylin giggled despite herself at the idea. "I suppose that could work."
