Nick made a huff sound that was almost certainly meant to be a laugh.

"Made it this far," he noted, "and the island is damn near made of them, you ever notice? Fucking stairs everywhere."

Nick didn't usually hate stairs. Nick hated them very much tonight. Not quite as much as he had when he'd first found himself on the island, back before his leg injury had healed. But still quite a bit.

"I'll give these ones a shot, too. Why not? I'm a goddamn daredevil tonight."
